What’s the most sophisticated new shop in Haddon Heights? Check out the Haddon Piano Studio at 616 1⁄2 Station Avenue – the one with the black and white awning and the black and white keyboard on the door.
In the 1970’s, Rosemary Green McDevitt and Anita Andruzza Prettelt became friends while studying under Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky, current Artistic Director and Piano Chair of The Julliard School. They received their Bachelor of Arts degree in music education and piano performance from Rowan University. Both Ms. McDevitt and Ms. Prettelt began teach- ing piano while in college, but after graduation, they continued in their own separate musical pursuits and began their families. Both lost their husbands to brain cancer and faced common challenges of being a single parent. A chance reunion at a local grocery store in September, 2009 led to the partnership and establishment of Haddon Piano Studio.
Both Ms. McDevitt and Ms. Prettelt welcome beginning as well as advanced students. Both teachers have experience with students as from 6 years old to seniors who have never played before. The students will learn concepts and skills in a way that ensures success in learning to play the piano. Two Yamaha Clavinova Pianoes offer the touch sensitivity and sound of an acoustic piano along with digital technology.
Piano lessons are scheduled, once a week, by appointment Monday through Saturday at a cost $25 per half hour lesson. Lessons are in align- ment with the school calendar. A six week summer session is available.
