Haddon Heights...celebrating 102 years of community!

January 13, 2004

Mayor Griffith opened the regularly scheduled meeting with a salute to the flag and moment of silence.

She then stated, “In Accordance with Section 5 of the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1975, notice of this meeting was posted on the bulletin board designed for that purpose and notice was mailed to the official newspapers provided by resolution adopted January 3, 2004”.

Under Roll Call the following council members were present:  Councilwomen Haven Houser, Sheilds and Wyman, Councilmen Witzig and O’Toole.  Borough Solicitor John B. Kearney was also present.

Motion to approve the minutes from the December 16th, 2003 meeting was made by Councilman O’Toole, seconded by Councilman Witzig.  All members of council voted yes.

Committee Reports:

Councilwoman Wyman, reporting for Administration, said she wanted council to be advised of a conversation she had with Pat Cooper regarding her workload and need for help.  Pat then explained that she cannot get to the minutes, agenda, etc., noting that part of the problem has been the amount of time she has spent with Registrar work (not having safety paper on time and the amount of requests for certified copies of marriage licenses).  Mrs. Cooper also said that end of year tax work, the upcoming tax season and the mailing of PD5’s has taking much of her time. She also said that if the Governor signs in the Tax Reimbursement Program, the Tax Office will be tied up with residents needing proof of payments in February. Council gave Mrs. Cooper the okay to seek experienced help.  Solicitor Kearney suggested Donna Condo.

Wyman also said she is seeking a list of all committees and groups and their terms.  Marie      Holcombe, an employee in Administration, offered to compile the list and put it on computer.

Councilman Witzig said he visited the Fire Department and reviewed a report with Chief Kinky.  He also discussed Patrolman Valvardi’s work in the school, stating that School Superintendent Snyder is very pleased with the officer.

Councilman O’Toole reported that there is snow on the way and advised residents to bag their leaves and put out for trash pickup.

Mayor Griffith reported that the cell phone ban has been approved and is awaiting the Governor’s signature.

There were no comments from the public on agenda items.
