Haddon Heights...celebrating 102 years of community!

 

 

October 5, 2004

Mayor Susan R. Griffith opened the regularly scheduled meeting with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence.

She then stated, "In Accordance with Section 5 of the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1975, notice of this meeting was posted on the bulletin board designed for that purpose and notice was mailed to the official newspaper provided by Resolution adopted January 3, 2004.

Under Roll Call the following council members were present:  Councilmen Witzig and O’Toole, Councilwomen Sheilds, Houser and Wyman.  The Borough Solicitor was also present.  Councilwoman Haven was absent.

Mayor Griffith invited Chris VanBaaren to accept a proclamation proclaiming October as Good Neighbor’s month.  Mayor Griffith read the proclamation then stated that Good Neighbors is a worthwhile organization and encouraged residents to donate generously.  Ms. VanBaaren said that Sue and Mark Watson were the founders of Good Neighbors and that their group really misses Mark who passed away last November.  On a positive note, she reported that Good Neighbors has a website and they are currently working with Barrington residents.  She thanks everyone for their support.

Motion to approve the minutes from the September 21st meeting was made by Councilwoman Sheilds, seconded by Councilwoman Houser.  All members of council present voted yes.  Councilman O’Toole abstained.

The following committee reports were presented.

Councilman Witzig reported that the Police Chief is putting the K-9 Program on hold for now and that interviews will be starting for the hiring of an officer to replace one that has retired.

Councilman O’Toole reported that budgets have been received from the various departments that included a 5-year plan and salary requests.  He had nothing to report for Public Works.

There were no remarks from the public on agenda items.

Old Business:

Public Hearing and Final Adoption of Ordinance 2004-1180.

Ordinance #2004-1180 – Ordinance of Haddon Heights, County of Camden, New Jersey Canceling Certain Funded Appropriation Balances Heretofore Provided for Various Capital Projects and Reappropriating Such Funded Appropriation Balances for Other Capital Projects

Hearing or seeing no comments from the public, motion to close the public hearing was made by Councilwoman Wyman, seconded by Councilman Witzig.  All were in favor.  Motion to adopt Ordinance 2004-1180 was made by Councilwoman Sheilds, seconded by Councilwoman Houser.  Upon roll call all members of council present voted yes.

New Business:

Resolution 2004:131 – Resolution Authorizing Refund of Tax Overpayment.

Motion to adopt Resolution 2004:131 was made by Councilwoman Sheilds, seconded by Councilman Witzig.  Upon roll call all members of council present voted yes.

Resolution 2004:132 – Resolution Authorizing Payment of Bills and Claims for 1st Half of October.

Motion to adopt Resolution 2004:132 was made by Councilwoman Sheilds, seconded by Councilwoman Houser.  Upon roll call all members of council present voted yes.

There were no comments from the public.

Motion to adjourn was made by Councilwoman Wyman, seconded by Councilwoman Houser.  All members present were in favor.
